Creative background
In the summer of 1990, Rowling and her boyfriend planned to move to Manchester. On the train back to London, Rowling sat idly gazing out of the window, her mind wandering freely. It was then that a black-haired, slight, bespectacled little wizard kept smiling at her from outside the carriage window. That was the image of Harry Potter.
The book was originally titled "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," but the American publisher feared that the word "philosopher" might scare off young readers, so it was renamed "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."
